About Me

My photo
Fly Fish Tennessee - I am a (FIVE time) Fly Casting Champion and I've taught at THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, Knoxville. I have fly fished all my life as fly fishing was the glue that bonded me with my dad, Dr. George Still. I made my first fly rod at age 12 and attended an advanced fly tying class with my dad at age 13. I have won a number of fishing contests while growing up. I simply want to provide the OPPORTUNITY for others to enjoy fly fishing by teaching students the sport. It is a terrific way to build lifelong relationships with multiple people. It is a sport that helps with the development of Patience, Kindness, and Gentleness and of course Self Control. I also like catching BIG FISH on BIG water!!! Call 865-696-9474 and tell me your background - I want to hear it.

Student Shares Success --- First time fly fishing

Email in --   Hey Drew, hope you're doing well. I am pretty pumped, made it up to the Hiwassee Saturday, flow was 1-0 generators so it was perfect for wadding. Tried my hand at a zebra midge with no luck, talked to another fly fisherman on his way out who told me he had just seen a May fly get devoured as soon as it hit the water. CLUE, I quickly tied on an Adams and made my way over to a nice run between the bank and a small island. First three cast I missed fish (you really have to be quick) on the fourth cast though I hooked up on a 10" rainbow. I believe that may be the most enjoyable fish I have ever landed, since it was my first fish ever on a dry fly I AM HOOKED!!! LOVE THIS SPORT!!! As the day went on I continued to catch fish on the Adams then switched to a black streamer with a little copper flash just for something different and caught one on the second cast. Wish I had pictures to share but I was by myself and haven't purchased a water-proof camera yet. I just wanted to share my experience with you, thought you would enjoy hearing one of your students was "productive on the stream". Thanks for all you taught us. I'll be in touch.
