Choosing a net

You need a net. There are many nets to choose from and a variety of price points available. The most popular type of net has a rubber well. They provide very little damage to the fish itself and nets with larger holes about the size of a quarter in the well itself, do not hold onto your flies once you net a fish. These are well worth your money and should last many years

Another popular type of net, has a very fine mesh material with very fine holes in the well. These are the least expensive the type of net to purchase however the fine mesh will snag your hooks once the fish is in your net. Following the release of your fish, you will then have to deal with the hook in the net!! You will end up… cutting a hole in the net itself just to retrieve your fly. This can cause a tremendous amount of frustration. If you’re planning on fishing frequently, I suggest purchasing a rubber well with pretty large holes about the size of a quarter.

Your local Fly shop will be able to assist with your options and price points.
